Baptism
Baptism – or literally “immersion” – is a big subject!
We can only scratch at the surface here but we have other material planned, to help to open this out.

Basically, Jesus taught that as we follow Him we should first, ‘repent’ of (that means to turn away from and leave behind) all the wrong things we have done, and then be ‘baptized’ as a symbol that we are serious about following Him as one of His disciples. We then aim to follow Him faithfully ….. Baptism is directly linked to being “born again”.
Baptism is part of the Believer’s “normal birth” and it’s a step that cannot be avoided. If Jesus asked you “why won’t you be baptized?”, what would you say in reply? You might think of some excuses, but eventually they’d fall flat!
We repeat, this is a big subject and we’d happily explore it with you. But if you’d like to do some digging into this, then these notes may help:

Ruth’s Story:
Ruth was a good Christian lady. She’d tried to follow Jesus all her life. She made some mistakes (some serious) but had always tried to be true to Jesus. She contributed to her local “church” where she could, particularly as its typist and church ‘secretary’. When in her seventies Ruth joined a ‘free church’ and heard some talks about baptism. She was 73 years old when she was baptized, but she recognized its importance and that you cannot ultimately be true to Jesus if you disobey Him in this matter, where He has been so clear. Ruth’s son, Peter, was baptized at the age of 35 in similar circumstances.
A buddy said to Peter something that really struck a chord, and Peter knew it to be true. The friend said, “God will never be able to use you in the way He wants to, unless and until you are baptized”. It was another five years after, that Peter put this thing right! It’s never too late, but it’s best to do it when you first declare your love for Jesus.
At Lighthouse we take baptism seriously.
We’d love to chat through what’s involved.
